Rhonda,
Different version of the flyswatter game.
put your scripture references for the SM on the front wall, all mixed up and out of order. (You can use the ones you use for fly swatter) Give each team different colored "smooshy" balls, like nerf or just soft. We found some soft ones at Wal Mart in the ball section so I have 5 white and 5 yellow. The SM clue is given by you. One point is then awarded to the team who shouts the reference first, and then another point is awarded to the first team who hits the reference with the ball first. You could also give the reference and require them to give the key word.

These ideas were given to me by someone else and are fairly simple with
little prep time.
For the flyswatter game:
Set up: Put 2 rows of chairs back to back down the center of the room. Make
signs (mine are 8-1/2 x 11) for each SM reference and tape them randomly
around the room. At the front of the room is a table with 2 flswatters on it
(one for each team). I found a store that had different colors, so each team
knows their color of flyswatter and if they use the wrong one they don't get
points!
Play: Divide your class into 2 teams. Each team gets a set of SM cards (the
ones from seminary) and they divide those between the members of each team.
I will read something from one card, either the front or back. The person
from each team that has that card has to get their teams flyswatter, run
around the room to find the reference and hit with the flyswatter. The first
one to hit the right reference gets the points. I use whatever point value I
feel like for that day. For March Madness they were higher points like 100
each. The only 2 real rules I have is that you have to use your teams
flyswatter and you can only hit the paper with the flyswatter! My kids
usually really like this one. The more kids the more fun they have.
Sometimes we play this one with another class.
The backpack game:
Set up: There are 4 teams. Set up 4 rows of chairs in a square around the
edges of the room. Each team will be a side of the square. Make a list of
things kids carry in their backpacks or wallets or purses.
Play: Divide kids into 4 teams. Again, each team gets a set of SM cards
and divides them between the kids on each team. I will read something from
a card and the person with that card has to call out the reference. (I
usually make them standup so I can better tell who was first.). Their team
gets points for getting the reference right. Then they get to pick a random
number between 1 and ?? (This will depend on how many items are on your list
of backpack items, I have about 50!). The first person from any team to
throw that item into the square gets extra points. Once an item is in the
square you cannot take it back out. So, if the item is a dollar bill and
someone throws in their wallet and then the next item is a drivers license,
they can't get their drivers license out of the wallet. One time I had
someone put themselves in the square! I don't usually tell my kids we are
going to play this game otherwise they stuff their backpacks with items from
home that they don't usually have in their and sometimes they try to bring
extra duffle bags. So, I only let them use backpacks and wallets or purses.
Each number can only be picked once. I had a girl who had about 10 mini For
the Strength of Youth pamphlets and so she just kept picking that number!!
I hope I didn't leave anything out. If it doesn't make sense email me I will
try to explain better.
Have fun,
Rhonda Wilcoxson
