It's not strictly SM but this is a good time of the year to review
the history of the children of Israel.... I've used it for March
Madness to continue the basketball theme.
Divide into two teams -- seated opposite each other in two parallel
lines. Write a subject on the board (ex: "Eve"). Toss a basketball
to someone on team A. They must say something they know about the
topic. ("Wife of Adam," "Mother of Abel," etc.). Then they toss the
ball to someone on Team B who must come up with another fact about
Eve. The play continues back and forth until the teams have exhausted
all they know about that topic. When one of the teams can no longer
think of fresh facts, the other team wins the round. During MM the
team that wins the round is allowed to shoot baskets for team
points. I suggest more difficult subjects than "Eve." My students
went on for 5 minutes about her before we were able to change the
subject. Harder things would be "objects in the
tabernacle," "Esau," "Saul" etc. You'll have to be the judge and
lay down the ground rules -- only legitimate answers. Not: "Esau --
a man with four letters in his name..." Trust me, it comes down to that.
You could adapt this for SM. Team A calls out a key word and tosses
the ball to someone on Team B who must give the scripture reference
or recite it, or use one of the doctrinal/missionary/personal
applications from the SM card, or the context in which the scripture
was given (Joshua warning the people before they went into Canaan)
etc. Then they call out a key word and toss the ball back to Team
A. No SM can be repeated until all have been used.
