[Teachldsseminary] Fw: Is this happening at your child's school?

I appreciate the posting as well. Several other parents had already heard about the event and were concerned about it. They brought it to my attention as well.

If we are to truly stand for truth and righteousness in these latter days I think we need to be an example to our families and our students and discuss the problems that they face today. I remember having a discussion with one of my daughters about 4 years ago about honesty. She couldn't see why I needed to return to the store and pay for something that the cashier had overlooked. For me it was a no brainer. I couldn't take advantage of anothers mistake. However she and her friends, all LDS, considered it a bonus. I had to be an example to her and stand up for what I thought was right. Since then she has had some of her own experiences and has served a mission. She can now see the value of being completely honest in your heart and in your actions.

This is a simple example, but I share it to show how easily the world can invade our thinking and we don't even realize that we have embraced the doctrines of the world. I applaud every teacher who takes the time to pray about their students, communicates with the Lord so they will be able to teach what He wants them to know, and reaches out to others to share what they have learned and to help strethen us as we too fight our daily battles in trying to do what is right. Thank you for your time and efforts to all who strive to keep us informed and who share their spiritual insights. It has made a difference in my life and in the life of my students who also benefit from your efforts.

  Sincerely,

  Beth Adams

P.S.: I apologize if this seems a little emotional or preachy. I just feel very strongly about the positive influence LDS teachers have been in our lives. And since I probably won't be teaching next year I AM a little emotional!

  Annie,

I appreciated your posting and understood what you were trying to use it
for. I am currently teaching Isaiah and we are discussing the prophecies
for our day. Our discussions in class about the world today are really
helping my students to see these prophecies being fulfilled. This is just
another example for my students.

Just so you understand, I'm not sending this out as a political action
issue. This isn't a "this is happening, take action" thing, which many of
us get everyday, I would guess.

My purpose was to generate discussion about how we could address this with
our seminary students since it sounds like most of them will be dealing with
it. I will be covering Lamentations the day before this happens, and I
think it's very interesting timing to be covering a book about the Lord
lamenting the wickedness of Israel and then having our kids walk onto their
campuses, being encouraged to show solidarity for homosexuality.

Sounds like a great teaching moment to me, which is what I thought this list
was for, but sincerely, no offense was intended.

For the record, I object to our e-mail list being
used for this type of posting.
