[Teachldsseminary] ADMIN: Recent list intrusion by GoodReads.com

We recently had three messages from GoodReads.com get broadcast over this
email list. This is spite of our tight controls. I reported this to
GoodReads.com and received the following response:

"We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.  The only emails Goodreads
sends to non-members are invites from one person to another, so it is likely
someone had you in their hotmail or yahoo or gmail address book.

You can permanently block these invites by following the link on the footer
of the email, which goes to this page:
http://www.goodreads.com/user/block_email.

Again we apologize, and hope you won't hold it against us!”

Let me translate for you. “We at GoodReads.com only mine our users address
books and SPOOF their addresses when we send out invites, so you’ll think
the invitee is actually sending them. That way you might actually open them
and read them. Even if we practice email bad form, don’t hold it against
us.”

I responded to GoodRead.com and called them on their spoofing practice. If
one of their invite messages reaches the list again, as I promised them, I
will report the problem to their ISP and their data center hosting company.
If you belong to GoodReads.com, you should immediately remove
‘teachldsseminary at latter-dayvillage.com’ from your address book. If you are
responsible for a GoodReads.com invite reaching the list, you will most
likely by removed from the list.

Thanks for listening,

Best Regards,
