A while back, someone posted their idea about RED - Read Every Day! I loved it and my kids loved it. Their school colors are red and white which makes it easy. I have changed the idea to fit my class, so I am not sure what the original activity was. They way I have done it is to notice if the kids are wearing red as a reminder to read everyday. Sometimes I give them candy if they are wearing red or if they read their scriptures the day before. I think the person who first posted the idea suggested lots of little trinkets to give to the kids to remind them to read everyday. I know that the store at latter-dayvillage.com has silicone bracelets that say "R.E.D."
I am planning for the whole month of February to be a RED month. I'll have a special sticker chart for the kids to record the days they read. At the end of the week I will let them pick a prize or two if they have read all week. I am thinking about letting them pick 1 prize as a reminder to RED and a 2nd prize as a reward for having read all week. I found Valentine packaged (pink, red, white) playdough, Valentine shaped brownies and Valentine paperclips. I am still looking for other small, hopefully very inexpensive items to give out. I am really excited about it and hope my kids enjoy the activity. Sometimes the winter months seem so long. I am having a good January and hope to make February just as good by making it more interesting. March will be great because my kids LOVE March Madness! I have 9 students this year (up from 4 this time last year) so it should be lots of fun!
If you have any suggestions I would love to hear from you.
Thanks!
