Object Lesson

Use a statue with a heavy base. Place it in front of the class throughout your lessons on Job. Explain how a sculptor must secure his medium in such a way so it will not be able to move while it is being worked on. Point out the imperfections that would result if the incomplete statue moved when it was struck or being chiseled into a final masterpiece. As you cover the following verses point out how this information created a "secure hold" for Job so that when adversity struck and chiseled away at him it did not leave him with imperfections but refined him "as gold."
