[Teachldsseminary] False Prophets/Jeremiah

Today in class when we were in Jeremiah 28 and discussing false prophets we started talking about the Foundation LDS sect that is in "the news" recently. How easily people can stray from the truth and can follow man.........many of the kids had been confronted at school about "YOU MORMONS and all your wives, etc."......

So we got into D&C 121 (verses 11-24) that shares how the Lord feels about those who participate in diverting others...............

Then we took out the "Official Declaration #1" from Wilford Woodruff (Manifesto) and read what was happening back in 1889 and how the Prophet declared to the world that we do not participate in plural marriage........that we obey the law of the land...........that these ordinances do not occur in the temple, etc.

It was pretty powerful and helped us all to see that the Lord speaks to his prophets in the days of Jeremiah, Woodruff, Monson, etc.........our days are different but same.

We also discussed that false prophets don't have to be people who profess to be prophet......that they can be "wolves in sheeps clothing", luring people in with the charisma, popularity, acceptance, or whatever..........and that these practices are just like the ravenous wolves who will devour us. We referred to Matthew 7 that discusses this  more.

The kids were really engaged and I felt they were "likening" the scriptures to our day. It was so AWESOME!
