[Teachldsseminary] OT: Looking for idea for YM/YW activity on encouraging YM to serve missions

I have a game that we play during Jeremiah that might be fun for the YW/YM. We only play it for about 20 minutes in class, but everyone wants to play it longer. Maybe this game could be used with something else that night?? There is a little advance prep work, but nothing major.

Here it is:

  THE MISSIONARY GAME

Each mission has a die. The first thing you need to do as missionaries is find some investigators to teach. To find some investigators, you need to roll a 1 on the die. If you do not roll a 1 or 2, it is the next person’s turn.
If you roll a 1, roll again. The number on the second roll is the number of investigators in the family. The secretary will give you that number of green cards.

If you roll a 2, you receive a package or letter from home. Roll the die again. If you roll a 1-5, you get a letter. If you roll a 6, you get a treat from the secretary.
Your goal is to get these investigators taught. To do this, you must roll a 3. If you roll a 3, exchange your green cards for red cards - they are "red"-y for baptism.

Now you want to roll a 6. This means it is baptism day and all of your red cards are exchanged for yellow. Your investigators are members of the church now.

If you roll a 4, it could be transfer day. Roll again to see if it is.
         1-3 No transfers
4-6 It’s transfer day! In a transfer, all missionaries move one chair to the right. They leave all green and red cards, but take the yellow cards, letters, and packages.

The number you don’t want to roll is 5. This means for one reason or another, you lost some of your investigators. Roll to see how many you must return to the mission secretary. Give up your green ones first.

At the end of the game, don’t count your baptisms. It doesn’t matter how many you baptized. All that matters is that you worked as hard as you could and that you followed the spirit and did what the Lord wanted you to do.

I give each mission a name and a set of instructions so they can play it. I am usually the secretary with the cards and treats, etc. I try to have about 4-6 persons per mission; that way no one has to wait for a long time for their turn.

Let me know if you have any questions.

My daughter is the Laurel class president in our ward. The Laurels are responsible for planning this month's YM/YW activity and want to have an activity to encourage the YM to serve missions. She is looking for more than Missionary Prep (tying ties and sewing buttons), but somehow get across to the YM that it is important to the girls that they serve missions. Since it is an activity rather than a fireside, she would like at least a little bit of "fun". Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks so much!
