Dear Everyone,
I really appreciate, like you do, all the time and work Linda puts into this
Jeopardy game every conference. That is a huge job. We played Jeopardy one
time in seminary--my husband worked up a power point to do it, and it was
lots of fun. Yesterday he took all of Linda's information, condensed some of
it, and put it into a jeopardy format. It is cool--we plan on playing it
tonight for FHE. If you would like this, please email ME (not the whole
seminary list)at slprice2 at cox.net. I would be glad to forward it onto you.
Please remember just to email me, and not the whole group. Don't hit reply
to this email--write me at the address above. I hope some of you can use
this--we would be glad to share. We couldn't have done it without Linda's
terrific contribution. Thanks again, Linda.
Sincerely, Louise Price in Arizona

Subject: [Teachldsseminary] 2008 APRIL Conference Jeopardy
Here's the e-mail text of the jeopardy game. I've sent a better formatted
version to Tim to put on the www.LDSseminary.com files site and it should
be there shortly.
Hopefully the wording is okay. I didn't have a lot of time to proof it!
Also, I seem to have more where students look up scriptures that went with
talks so make sure all of the students have scriptures with them. I also
have two extra questions at the end if you don't like one or have to throw
one out.

WHAT IS THE SUBJECT?
100 Pres. Uchtdorf spoke about Faith of our Fathers and how some are
reluctant to join the church because of the faith of their ancestors. What
did he say should be the Faith of our Fathers? What of the faith of ancient
ones before them? What of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob? Are we not of house of
Israel. What of Savior and disciples who followed him. Faith of our
Father in Heaven has been consistent since beginning of time.
TEACHER NOTE: Do we not owe our allegiance to God - our Heavenly Father.
Merciful plan established before foundation is plan, this is the plan and
faith of our father. God desires all his children receive, irrespective of
background, culture or tradition. True religion does not originate from
what pleases man or traditions of ancestors but what pleases God.
200 Pres. Eyring spoke about priesthood keys that remain functioning on
the earth on even after the death of the prophet. He said it is the power
to live on as the true gospel and we have to remain worthy to sustain those
who have been called. He said that when the Apostles after Christ died, they
had those same keys. What was the subject he said happened? Apostasy. It
was through the loss of faith by members, those keys were not passed on. He
said that will not happen in our day.
300 Sister Tanner spoke of many things including the Savior, the
priesthood keys and temples, with youth attending them, roles of daughters
of God and mothers and families and chastity and purity. What words of
Nephi did she repeat that was the subject of her talk? I delight (in the
things of the Lord)!
400 Elder Oaks said this is not a travel log, a health report or
expression of love for a family or a sermon. What is it? A testimony.
Teacher's note: He said "I know" the gospel is true is different from I know
it's cold outside or I love my wife. Three kinds of knowledge learned in
different ways. Knowledge of love is personal through experiences, cold is
scientifically proven and a testimony is from the Holy Ghost.
500 Elder Hales told us that God the Father always introduced Jesus as
his beloved son. What was the subject of his talk: Christ is not the same
being as his Father but like his father in power and authority.
Teacher's note: He also gave these examples: Christ talked to
his father in the intercessory prayer and during the atonement and on the
cross also made it clear he was not performing his own work.
SOLEMN ASSEMBLY
100 Pres. Uchtdorf said the solemn assemblies had been held in general
conference since October 10, 1880 when a solemn assembly was held for which
prophet? Pres. John Taylor
200 How did the men and boys of the church participate in the solemn
assembly? They arose and sustained the First presidency by priesthood
quorums.
300 Elder Nelson said when we participate in the solemn assembly, we had
just invoked what law (answer found in D&C 26:2)? Law of common consent
400 How did females over 12 participate in the solemn assembly? They
arose as either RS or YW and sustained the first presidency.
500 Elder Hales reminded us that in the solemn assembly we did not vote.
What did sustaining mean? We covenanted to uphold a prophet of God.
WHAT SHOULD WE DO?
100 Elder Zwick spoke about a young man named Ethan who is valiant and
tries to live right and studies his scriptures but felt like many of you
feel. He asked his mother a question. What was the question? "Do I need to
lower my standards to keep my friends?"
TEACHER'S NOTE: What should he do? NO! Never forget you are a
son (or daughter) of God and live by those standards. The time has come to
take an unyielding stand and follow the prophet of God. Do as Nephi - heed
them not!
200 Elder Wirthlin spoke about the lost sheep who have various reasons
and some reasons are that they don't feel that they belong or are not
needed. He said we cannot all be what music instrument? Piccolos of the
world
TEACHER'S NOTE: We must all be different instruments and are all needed to
come together for a symphony to work together in the gospel.
300 Elder Amado spoke said the three purposes of the Savior's life on
earth was to carry out the infinite and eternal sacrifice for all humanity,
to teach the doctrine he learned from His Father, and to build the kingdom
by serving others. Then he told us things we should do to be of service.
He said the church does many things to serve the world. Name one of those
things? Feed the hungry, gift shelter and help out in times of natural
disasters, provide other assistance to those not of our faith and also teach
doctrines of Christ.
TEACHER'S NOTE: He aid as we serve him, we will experience a
change of heart and aptitude.
400 Elder Christofferson told the story of living in Tennessee. One day
a man called to talk to him he did not know. He introduced himself as
recently retired minister of another faith and asked to meet with him. When
they met, he said he came out of concern for the welfare of my soul and
pulled out scriptures from NT and wanted to review these verses and talk
about be saved. He was sincere and touched. They conversed for more than an
hour and they was open to explaining something of our faith to this fellow.
They found much they believed in common and some they did not. He felt a
bond of friendship and they prayed before the man left. Then Elder
Christofferson talked to us about being spiritually born again. He said it
is a process more than an event. For most of us change is gradual and occur
over time. Name one of the steps of process of spiritual rebirth that he
mentioned.
He said: Rebirth originates in faith in Christ as atoning one and redeemer.
When true faith takes root, it leads to repentance. Covenant to obedience
which is baptism by water - baptism unto repentance. Then baptism with fire
and Holy Ghost. Then we are on the path of spiritual rebirth
500 Elder Scott said that Some of Heavenly Father's children use agency
improperly and cause serious problems in others. He then spoke about abuse,
especially sexual abuse. He urged those to recognize that if you have
feelings you are not loved by Heavenly Father, you are being manipulated by
Satan. What tool did he say that Satan use to keep victims suffering and
prevent them from getting help? Fear
STORY TOLD!
100 Elder Raband told the story of visiting the 12000 feet lake Titicaca
in Peru and visiting members who lived on the new floating island Apuente.
These families knew their scriptures and showed their temple recommends and
asked him to dedicate their new island home. How did he say the youth went
to seminary? They paddled by boat for minutes each day!
200 Pres. Packer told us an experience with President Kimball that he
said was the experience of a lifetime. Tell the Story. "In Denmark, Pres.
Kimball visited church with Christus and apostles statues on each side.
Most of group was at rear with custodian. I stood with Pres. Kimball with
Elder Pinegar and Pres. Benthene. Pres. Kimball pointed to keys in Peter's
hand and then in an act he turned to Pres. Benthene pointed his finger at
him and said I want you to tell everyone in Denmark I hold the keys. We hold
the real keys and use them every day. I will never forget that day. We
walked to back of chapel and rest of the group. Pointing to statues he said
to custodian, these are dead apostles, here we have living apostles, Elder
Packer, Elder Monson and Perry are apostles. We are living apostles. You
read about 70s in NT and here are two 70s."
300 Elder Nelson told the story of meeting with a tribal king in Africa.
What did the king want to do when he was deeply moved, realizing he was
being taught by an apostle of the Lord? He wanted to mandate that throngs
of his people be baptized. TEACHERS NOTE: Elder Nelson told him that the
Lord doesn't work that way that the development of faith and repentance
leading to Salvation are individual matters.
400 Elder Ballard told the story about him being a bishop for ten years
and having six children during that time. After his release, he was able to
sit with the family. One Sunday his wife was singing and he had all the
children by himself. He said he had never been so busy in his life and his
wife just smiled at him from the pulpit. They he spoke to mothers and at
the end said some things that children can do to help their mothers. Name
one. Pick up and make the bed and help with chores without being asked.
Say thank you more often. Put your arms around mother often and tell her
you love her.
500 Pres. Monson said that Elder Wirthlin was over the European area and
he would always call him at the same time, he said the best time to get him.
It was 8:00 am in Frankfurt and what time in SLC? Midnight
OT SCRIPTURE MASTERIES
100 Elder Neuenschwander spoke about the women in a crowd who touched the
Savior and was healed. He said struggling through the crowds of the world
can be lonely but who better than the Savior to reach out to. Then he
quoted this SM in Isaiah about the Savior who bore our griefs. Find it and
read it. Isaiah 53:3-5
200 Elder Walker spoke of learning of the importance of first presidency
while growing up in Canada. At his grandparents home, he was greeted by a
framed photo of first presidency, of Pres. George A Smith with J Reuben

he didn't remember the name of the person or what he spoke but remembers
what he felt.

approve the action taken place in the temple.

and has been foreordained to lead the church. Pres. Monson feels it's a
great tribute that many call him what? A friend

DOUBLE JEOPARDY
OTHER SCRIPTURES SPOKEN!
200 Pres. Monson said the sweetest experience in life is to feel Christ's
promptings as he directs us in this work. He said a spirit of unity exits
among the general authorities. Then he quoted this scripture in D&C 38:27.
Find it and read it.
400 Elder Holland started his talk by quoting in Revelation 22:19, a
scripture many people use to say there should be no more scripture.
However, he said that now most scholars say it wasn't the oldest book
written that we have in our new testament. Then he said there is even a
simpler answer. What was that answer? The Bible as one collection of text
did not exist like it does now until after 1000 AD. The books were
circulating as individual texts.
600 Elder Johnson spoke about safeguarding the home as a center of
learning where we can teach values with love and be role models. He said he
learned loyalty, integrity, dependability, service, honor and respect from
his parents. He then quoted 1 Corinthians 2:11 about having the spirit of
God. Find that SM and read it.
800 Elder Bednar talked about meaningful prayer and that it takes true
faith in Christ and righteous action on our part that will lead to more
power. He then quoted the NT SM about faith and works. Find that SM in
James 2:18-19 and read it.

letting Sgt. Arthur Morris stay in the field with his men even though
wounded and later that day Sgt. Morris being killed. He said death is a

occur. He then spoke part of this SM taught by Amulek. Find and read Alma

LISTS GIVEN
200 Elder Steuer spoke about a flashlight and putting it on his hand and
illuminating his hand. Then he listed three ways we can obtain spiritual
light. Name one of those three ways:
1. Learn true doctrine.
2. Gain pure testimony.
3. Live gospel courageously.
400 Sister Lant the General Primary President told about her father's
legacy of a red ruby ring passed on to her bother. She spoke of family

consider in our families to pass down to our children. Name one she

service, activity in the church, respect and loyalty.

1. Desire to know.
2. Ask God in sincere prayer.
3. Not a passive thing but a process in which we are expected to
follow God's will.
4. Bear it! We gain or strengthen a testimony by bearing it. Some
testimonies are better gained on the feet bearing them than on the knees
praying for them.
TEACHER'S NOTE: he went on to list two things to do to retain a testimony:
1. Partake of the sacrament each week to always have his spirit to be
with us. That spirit is the source of our testimonies.
2. Share that testimony. Stand as a witness.
800 Pres. Eyring spoke of gratitude for the cleansing power of the
priesthood and how it blesses families and transforms us here and through
eternal relationships. He then listed four things he sees the church
perfecting in to prepare for the second coming. Name one thing:

1000 Elder Lund quoted D&C 121:34-36 and spoke about hearts that are set
upon things of the world and warned us about hardened hearts, that the Lord
will withdraw the spirit from us and we are left to ourselves. He listed
three consequences of hardened hearts. Name one: 1. Seek to hide your sins.
2. Gratify your pride and vain ambitions, 3. Exercise unrighteous dominion.
WORDS OF OUR PROPHET
200 Pres. Uchtdorf told a story of Pres. Monson when he was at a
conference in Hamberg, Germany that showed how he ministered to the one.
Tell that story. Pres. Monson came to regional conference in Hamburg
Germany. He has remarkable memory and amazed he remembered so many so well.
Pres. Monson asked about Brother Panich a former stake pres and patriarch.
He was ill and bed ridden. Pres. Monson wanted to pay him a visit. He had
recently undergone foot surgery and could not walk without pain. Brother
Panich lived on fifth floor of building without elevators. We went. I
remember how difficult to climb stairs. He could only take a few before
stopping to rest. He would not turn back. We arrived at apartment of
Brother Panich and had a wonderful visit and gave him a blessing. No one
but Brother Panich and family and myself ever saw that act of courage and
compassion. He could have chosen to rest between meetings or asked to see
sites of city. How remarkable it was that of all of the sites in that city,
the one he wanted to see more than any other was feeble and ailing member of
the church who had faithfully served the Lord.
400 President Monson said that when he was first sustained as a member of
the quorum of the 12 in October, 1963, he mentioned he had seen a small sign
on another pulpit. What did that sign say? "Who stands at this pulpit, let
him be humble."
600 Elder Rasband quoted Pres. Monson who said, "The Lord commands, and
to those who obey him, whether they be wise or simple, he will reveal
Himself in the toils, the conflicts, and sufferings by which they shall
learn in their own experience who He is." Elder Rasband spoke about our
personal journey through live and how it provides experiences for what?
Building faith and testimony.

her parents, her father brought out a picture with two missionaries who had
baptized him. One was Pres. Monson's uncle. What happened next? Her
father kissed him and her mother kissed him but Francis got her coat!.

OTHER OT SCRIPTURES
200 Elder Perry spoke that in Moses 1:39 that God's work for our
eternal life and immortality are distinct and different things. He said
immortality is to live forever in a resurrected state by the grace of God
and we don't need to do anything for that give. What is eternal life and
what do we have to do for that? Those who obey fullness of Gospel inherit
eternal life. They receive exaltation, eternal families and living with
God.
400 Elder Lund spoke that personal revelation is closely linked to the
heart. He quoted Psalm 34:18. Find and read it.
600 Pres. Monson spoke that mortality is a time of testing and to prove
ourselves and sometimes we face challenges and difficulties and then he read
this plea found in Jeremiah 8:22. Find and read it.
Teacher's note: I then testified that if we turn to our Heavenly
Father he will comfort and life and guide us through whatever storms we
face.
800 Elder Holland spoke about having the Bible only does not make one a
Christian. He said that scripture points away from itself are
manifestations of ultimate source of authority which is God giving us
revelation. He said we believe in a god that is engaged in our lives and
not one that Elijah talked about in 1 Kings 18:27. Find and read that
verse.
1000 Elder Wirthlin said he remembered an older boy disabled and speech
impediment. Other boys teased him and cry. One day, he could bear it no
longer, and at age 7, he stood up to my friends and told them not to touch
him and tease him, he is a child of God. His friend stepped back and turned
away. From that day on, his friends became closer and showed increased
compassion to the boy. They never taunted him again to his knowledge. We
need more compassion for those different than us. Then he quoted this

embarrassed to add anything more to the list).
Elder Sheldon told the story of a women in West Africa had testimony of
tithing. Trader in market place. Every day count out tithing and put it in
special place. On Sunday pay to Bishop. Her business grew and her family
blessed with health and strength and food to eat. What did she says was her
greatest blessing? My children love the Lord and we are a forever family.
