A fun SM game for any sze class, including large ones, is the Scavenger Hunt
game.
This is played in a gym or other large room.
At one end, have the class break into groups (4 or 5 in a group is
managable) and have the groups sit on the floor with their scriptures.
At the other end of the roomis a small round table and a chalk board.
I stand by the table and I begin to ead a SM passage, or I might read one of
the applications found on the back of the SM cards. The kids can work
together in their groups. The first group who finds the Sm in their
scritprues and stands with their books held above their heads receives 5
points. I mark tt on the board. Then that group calls out a number between 1
and 75. Looking at a list that I have, I read off the item next to the
number, say it is a comb. All the groups scramble through their book bags
and purses. The first person who can run up to the table and place a comb on
it, their group receives 3 points. The comb stays on the table, ever one
returns to the floor and another SM is read.
I like this for many reasons - by working in a group, the faster kids can
help the slower ones without any body feeling noticed. Even if the group
doesn't get the SM, they still have a chance to earn points for their team.
It also gets the kids running and cheering. Any kid in the group can run an
item up to the table, so those kids who don't feel like running or have
physical challenges can still participate.
My class has learned to keep very strange items in their purses and bookbags
just for this game. They love it!
here is a list of items to be found:
Rules:
Divide class into teams. Give a scripture clue, and they work as a team. The
first team on which all members have found the scripture, earns 5 points.
The first place team chooses a number between 1 and .... The teacher reads
the item which is to be found and placed in a designated area (box or taped
off area). The first team to locate the item and place it in the designated
place earns 3 points. Any item in the designated area is thereafter out of
play (for example a back pack, shoe, etc.). Object must be found in the
room.
