[Teachldsseminary] Object lesson

Just thot I would share an object lesson I used today. I gave each student
a sealed envelope containing a paper with the scripture 2 Nephi 31: 17-20
written on it, and a small, thin glow stick (the kind that come 6 per pack
that you make a necklace or something out of)...anyway....
We were talking about the Plan of Salvation and how we are all born with the
light of Christ, but it was up to us to take that little light and use it to
grow and progress along the path and obtain more light. I told them that
inside the envelope were two things: #1. the answer to obtaining eternal
life with God, and #2, a gift from God to help us find the answer. Then I
turned the lights out so that we were in complete darkness. Then I told
them to open their envelopes, that they had the answer right in front of
them. They also had a gift from God and it was up to them to decide what to
do with it, use it to find the answer, or leave it alone and stay in
darkness. It was a silent activity - at first they were a little chatty
and giggling (they love the glow sticks), but once they started reading, all
was silent. It was neat. When the lights went up (everyone was still
silent) I showed the song from the O.T. DVD (Plan of Salvation) and we
had the closing prayer.
