[Teachldsseminary] Scripture Reading Assignment Idea

Just a thought that occurred to me today--I was looking for a way for the
students to remember what Book/Chapter is assigned for them to read for
tomorrow.
I already put the week's assigned OT scriptures in the Sunday bulletin to
get them started.
I encourage them to write it in their high school assignment book, if they
use one.
I even mentioned they could write it on their hand!!--My son actually did
that with his assignments when he was in high school...
But the best of all seems to be to give them permission at the end of class
to enter the assignment in their cell phones!! They sure do love to whip
those things out, and they are really very careful not to use their cell
phones at any other time.
Oh, and my class president and I came up with a way to "reward" them for
actually pondering their scriptures at home and coming to class the next day
with a gospel principle or application they found in the scriptures. I
brought a little plastic container with slips of paper in it--one more slip
than I have students. I have 9 students, so there are 10 slips of paper. I
numbered the slips, and the extra one has the word "All" on it. So each
morning we draw a slip, I am the only one who sees which one is chosen.
Then, if we draw the number 3, the third student who shares an insight in
the scriptures gets a reward "shekel". If we draw "All" everyone who shares
gets a shekel; if we draw the number 5 and only 4 students share, no one
gets any thing that time around. I don't plan to do this every day for the
whole year, but it seems to be motivating them right now.
Thought this might be of help to someone else
