I wouldn't single him out. He, like everyone, needs encouragement.
Students don't get evaluated on how much they get out of seminary. Even the
sleepy ones get more than we think. And just BEING THERE is huge. In our
area, the only kids who have graduated active in church are the ones who
have attended seminary.
As to devotionals - have a conference edition handy, and let the student
scan through and pick out a quote to read/talk about. Works like a charm.

Subject: [Teachldsseminary] QUES: Counting carpool students tardy?????
I have a question about counting students tardy and want to know what other
teachers do. I have a Senior boy who struggles with mornings. Last year he
drove his brother to class. This year, he drives his brother and 2 other
students. The other 2 students might not come if this young man did not
pick them up. Last year, I did not count his brother tardy unless they said
it was the brother who caused them to be late. I don't really want to start
counting everyone late just because they ride with the Senior, but I don't
want to enable the boy to be late all the time. I have had him all 3
previous years of Seminary. I have yet to see what motivates him. He is a
very responsible young man, but just isn't engaging himself in Seminary. I
am trying to really apply the teaching emphasis. It seems that he isn't
here about half the time or that he is asleep or very sleepy when he is
here. I am not sure how much he is getting. Any suggestions?
Should I just count him as tardy, but not the other rs? What can I do to
help him see that his life will be blessed if he fully engages himself?
He rarely come prepared with a devotional. I have decided that next time he
is not prepared with a devotional, I will ask him to share his testimony of
the resorted gospel.
Thank you!
