[Teachldsseminary] students with attitudes

I too have my 16 year old son in my class. There have been some direct comments to me that haven't been very kind and if there is an attitude, he has it. I try very hard to look at him as a student when we are in class, and as my son when we are out. You are right, relying on the Holy Ghost is very important. I too try to do too much. I have learned that sometimes you can get the point across in very simple ways because they don't listen for long. I also found that my difficulty is in knowing what to cut out and what to use to make the point. This year we have been focusing more on Scripture Mastery and the meaning of those scriptures. While we discuss the lessons we try to relate the scriptures we have learned to the subject of the lesson. One of the days they said they liked the best was when we discussed Joseph's family and they colored their own coat of many colors. they had a greater understanding of what went on in the family, the birthright and why Joseph
earned it, etc. I feel like I'm not using everything in the lesson, but this is what I have been prompted to do, more than once. I guess my students this year just need this understanding of the scripture masteries for their lives more than those in the past.

I hope things get better for you. Just remember your child doesn't necessarily see you as the teacher, they see you as mom.

This year I'm struggling with my class of 4 (3 boys and 1 girl). The girl is fine, but the boys think that seminary is the time to display their rapier wit (the worst offender being my own 16-year-old son). Today I had them sit at different spots around the dining room table and really pushed through the lesson to try to keep them engaged. The seating arrangement shift seemed to help; the rapid lesson, not so much. I think my lack of success is due to trying to do it on my own and not praying for help/guidance. I'm pretty much an idiot that way, so I appreciate those comments reminding me to seek help from Heavenly Father and the guidance of the Holy Ghost.

Thanks,
