I am ahead of most of you. I had the same questions, I received this back from our CES headquarters. Nancy DeckerSigonella, Sicily
Old Testament DVD and Media Guide Changes

The Old Testament DVD you have is different from the VHS tape previously used. The numbers of the clips do not correspond with the numbers in your Media Guide, and some clips are missing altogether. Here is a list of the changes:

Missing Clips – on Tape and in Media Guide but not on DVD (numbers from Tape):
15 The Law of Moses
16 The House of Israel

New Clips – on DVD but not on Tape or in the Media Guide (numbers from DVD):
9 Children of Israel
10 The Deliverance of Abraham
17 Sacrifice and Sacrament
19 Hannah’s Faith
21 The Lord Will Deliver Me
22 Naaman and Elisha

The Media Guide is obsolete: it was produced for the old curriculum which we last used in 1999. It was continued just because they had surplus stocks in Salt Lake and it proved so popular with teachers they may even have reprinted it. But it was not designed as part of the current curriculum and will not be updated or replaced – just use what you can if you want to, it is a bonus.

Also, since the Teacher Manual was printed before the DVD, many of the media suggestions do not have the same numbering as the DVD. The best thing is to preview the DVD and decide when you want to show the clips – the title in the little pamphlet that came with the DVD indicates which scripture the clip refers to.

Having said all that, there is a bigger issue. The DVD you have is a “stop-gap”. A new two-disc set will shortly be available – they have promised November so expect December or January. Here is a description:

CES, in partnership with the Church Curriculum Department, is working on a new Old Testament media product that will replace the current Old Testament media set (presentations 1–28). The new media is a 2–disk set that will be called the Old Testament Visual Resource DVD. It is organized by scripture block and topic and will support most of the second half of the Old Testament. In addition to twelve of the media pieces being new to CES (five were filmed in the summer of 2006 and seven are repurposed), it will include the following:
      • 136 prophetic quotes
      • 32 interactive charts
      • 54 videos
      • Over 100 Old Testament images
      • A study activity for each media element

The numbering in this new set is different from both the Media Guide or the Teacher Manual and many clips will not be referred to at all. However the last bullet point gives some hope that there may be guidance built-in to the DVD.

Craig
