Subject: [Teachldsseminary] Abrahamic Test

I am pretty sure that most of you are past this point, but I thought I would
throw it out there anyway. Our class was studying lesson on Abraham
sacrificing his son Isaac and how each of us was also going to face out own
personal test. I found a quote by Presiden Brigham Young that read
"The worst fear I have about this people is that they will get rich in this
coutry, forget God and His people, wax fat, and kick themselves out of the
Church and go to hell. this people will stand mobbing, robbing, poverty and
all manner of persecution and be true. But my greatest fear is that they
cannot stand wealth."
and the quote from President Ezra Taft Benson ("Our obligation and
challenge, regional representatives seminar,Sept 30, 1977)
"The Lord has on the earth some potential spiritual giants whom He saved
for some six thousand years to help bear off the Kingdom triumphantly, and
the devil is trying to put them to sleep. The devil knows that he probably
won't be too successful in getting them to commit many great and malignant
sins of commission. So he puts them into a deep sleep, like Gulliver, while
he strands them with little sins of omission. And what good is a sleepy,
neutralized, lukewarm giant as a leader?
"We have too many potential spiritual giants who should be more vigorously
lifting their homes, the kingdom, and the country. We have many who feel
they are good men, but they need to be good for something - stronger
patriarchs, courageous missionaries, valiant genealogists and temple
workers, dedicated patriots, devoted quorum members. In short, we must be
shaken and awakened from a spiritual snooze"

We discussed how spiritual giants today are being "put to sleep". One thing
that we discussed is how we as members of church treat those people that are
trying to live up to their potential. We call them "Molly Mormons" or "Peter
Priesthoods" how it was probably Satan that came up with those terms becuase
he wouldn't want us to be striving to be like those people. If the entire
church was made up of "Molly Mormons" and "Peter Priesthoods" I imaging that
it would be a huge force for good on this earth. We talked about how hard
it is to stand against evil in the regular world, let alone to be teased and
mocked within the church for the same thing.

I think that it went well becuase several of these students are teased by
their peers for doing the right thing. I am hoping that it changed their
minds about how the treat others and about how they need to be living
correctly in spite of how others treat them. I know that for me it changed
the way I think about people.
