[Teachldsseminary] TEACH Gen. 20

I taught Genesis 20 today and also was wondering what to do with
it. My feeling was to keep pondering about it. Then I noticed
the Teacher Resource Manual under Some Important Gospel
Principles to Look For - "The Lord gives special blessings to
those who faithfully endure trials and testing and it refered to
Gen 20:1-3 and 9-15. That principle was our theme for the
lesson. Abraham was faithful yet experienced many trials.
Having Sarah taken from him (for the second time) had to be
extremely difficult. The Lord did bless Abraham and did
intervene by visiting Abimelech and Sarah was returned to him
unharmed. We also saw another principle that "the Lord keeps all
his promises" - Ch 20: 7and 17 in this case to Abimelech.
We spent the last half of the lesson on OT sightings in General
Conference using some of Linda Harpers notes for the Jeopardy
game. (Thank you Linda) They really liked that and made the
connection that they are being taught Scripture Master verses not
only in Seminary but in Gen Conference, YW, EFY and elswhere and
the important part of scripture mastery is that they come to know
these verses in their hearts and minds so they can apply and
share them. I love when the students have these light bulb
moments.

We pretty much skipped it. When we got to Chapter 20, I
mentioned it and said, "Shades of Egypt!" The same thing that
happened in Egypt with Pharaoh is happening again. We mentioned
that while it was not okay to commit adultery, it was okay to
kill someone and take his wife. I also told them this could be
an event that happened again or the same event that ended up
being recorded twice in different locations. And of course, this
story will be repeated again when you get to Chapter 26 with
Isaac and Rebekah. Little differences here, but essentially the
same.

After spending about 5-7 minutes on it, we went on to Chapter
21, highlighted a couple of events, and then went into Chapter
22.

I just noticed that the Pacing Guide in the Teacher's manual
shows us spending a whole day on Gen. 20, but there is NOTHING on
that chapter in the Manual! Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking
of spending more time on Abraham's and Isaac's sacrifice instead
of a whole day on Gen. 20. Nora
