[Teachldsseminary] [11] Gen 11 -- Tower of Babel

This morning the students had the words to I Am a Child of God (just first
verse and chorus) on their desks. I had the words in about ten or so
different languages, so there were about 4 or five of each language passed
out. We all sang the song, using the translations they had been given. A
few chose to sing in English. They wanted to sing it again.
I taught the concept that if they showed up for seminary one morning and
everyone was speaking different languages, they would naturally gravitate
to someone who they could understand - who spoke the same language. It's
easy to see how this event would stop the building of the tower and scatter
the people.
We also talked about Nimrod and how easy it is for one person to gain so
much power over so many people. I gave them some modern day examples:
Jonestown; Heaven's Gate; Solar Temple; and Charles Manson. We compared
the imitation Temple and Priesthood of Nimrod with the real deal.
