I don't mean for this to be off-topic, but Sister Johnson's response to the
discussion was a great illustration of the types of questions we can propose
to our students that make them think and look inward and, in short, apply
the scriptures to themselves. As a seminary supervisor, these questions are
a great illustration that I hope I can utilize in an inservice meeting some
day. I want to be more than just "going through the motion" of teaching.
Sister Johnson reminded me how I can dig deeper in my lessons. Thank you,
Sister Johnson!

Wow - I'm a little slow, but this brought to mind another way to look at
the
reason he was so upset with the money changers and how they were treating
this sacred ordinance. I appreciate your thoughts about Him knowing He
would
be the sacrifice, and the people going through the motion. Was He thinking
about that when he saw how the money changers were dealing with everyone?
Do
we go through the motions, not only when taking the Sacrament but also our
attendance in the temple. What sacrifice do we bring? Is it one we bring
with
us in humility? Or have we easily procured it without thought? Do we
bring
one at all?
Since studying the Book of Mormon the last time in Seminary I have focused
on Christ among the Nephites during the Sacrament portion of our service.
What would it have been like to be one of the 2500 that He blessed and spoke
to
individually? How long would I have had to wait in line for my turn? What
would I say to Him when it was finally my alone time with Him? What
blessing
would He feel I needed most? How would I feel to actually touch His hands
and feet? What questions would I ask? What knowledge would I take away
from
that encounter? EVERYTHING is about the Atonement. If our students can
have
their testimony in their hearts, not just on their lips ~ they will, as I
hope we are, make choices that honor that testimony, trust and faith
they/we
have for our Savior.
