Today we did a different scripture mastery activity than we have done before and it went well. Even my senior boys, who I have a hard time getting to participate without joking around, participated.
I copy and pasted either the doctrinal application, missionary application, or personal application for each one of the scripture mastery scriptures and printed them in a large font. I numbered them and hung them around the cultural hall walls. In a basket I had the scripture references printed on different colored papers. One color for each team. Each team (2 or 3 students) had every reference. The teams would take a reference, read the scripture if they didn't have it memorized, and find the corresponding application from around the room. They would then, write the number on the reference paper and bring it to me to be checked. If it was right, they would get another reference slip from the basket. If it was wrong, I would tell them what area the right one was in. We found that some had more than one correct answer, but I was looking for a certain one, so I would say to them, "Find a different one." This seemed to keep them going.
I had 20 students participating at the same time, earnestly looking for the correct scripture. It was a great "last scripture mastery of the year" activity.
If you would like the applications I copy and pasted and the references on one sheet, email me privately and I will forward it to you.
