[Teachldsseminary] Ques: D&C March Madness

First of all we have a bulletin board where I put fun things every day -
cartoon depictions of the sections we are studying (like four angels tied to
a tree and a third angel asking them to hold his book while he unties them);
I put the occasional quiz on there for them to earn points (like a street
map of the current day intersection in Independence Missouri where the three
churches intersect and they have to guess where in the world this
intersection is located); I also have "guess this person" and I put
pictures up - this month I have a picture of St. Patrick, patron St. of
Ireland; I have also put up some of those funky optical illusions for them
to have fun with (you know, some things aren't always as they seem); just
anything I find that's a bit odd or freaky and that I can usually tie into a
gospel principal somehow. I posted the picture of the prehistoric skeletal
remains of the couple locked in an embrace that were uncovered in Italy and
the kids had to vote whether the couple was hugging or choking each other
and how they think they died. Some days we also play let's make a deal
where they have the option of trading some of their hard earned points for
what's in box #1 or behind door #1. To help them decide I give them a
scripture from the DC that will give them a clue as to what's in the box
(like the DC scripture about dogs and swine - inside the box were giant
dog biscuits). One lucky young man was heard to say as he went out the
door, "Gee, can you eat these things?"
Anyway, just anything that I come across that is a bit whacky and weird.
Most of the trivia stuff I have gotten from the Institute manuals and Church
history. I usually play a very short fun game for SM before getting into
the lesson. Then I intersperse the lesson with some trivia if it applies.
Usually on Fridays we do the more rowdier games. They really like the dice
and the pie plate race. Tomorrow we are playing a game where they have to
build a structure out of paper cups. And of course, they adore anything
involving balloons.
If anyone has more whacky ideas, please pass them along - March is a
looooong month.
Kim
