This is an excerpt from a recent Latter-dayVillage.com seminary subscribers
newsletter. My apologies to those getting this information a second time.

A very popular thing to do this week of the year is have an activity, either
scripture mastery or lesson oriented, with a Super Bowl theme. Here are
several suggestions from the Filing Cabinet:

Seasoned teachers know that one of the most challenging months is February;
commonly known for the wintertime blahs. To your students (and teachers
alike), Christmas break is was a long time ago and Spring break seems looks
"forever" away. Here are Bro. Holder's Frost Fighters: several ideas and/or
Filing Cabinet links with ways to overcome the cold, snow, and darkness here
in the northern hemisphere. Those down south, file these ideas away for
July/Aug...

activity ideas to combat Jack Frost. -

SM Activity Day Ideas - have a scripture mastery game day one week and
a scripture mastery activity day (something other than a game) the following
week -

Do a SILENT LESSON. Use flashcards with pre-printed questions and
answers, such as "Read Verse :12 and tell me what Joseph was instructed to
do." You may use overhead projectors or PowerPoint for these lessons with
questions, visuals, etc. YOU DO NOT SAY A WORD!!! Opening Song and prayer,
etc. are written on the board and you just point to it. You can have pages
that say, "Thank you" "Great answer" "No" "Can you be more specific", etc.
At the end of class, have one that tells them you love them....DON"T SAY A
WORD! These are hard and take some time, but their impact is tremendous.
Examples:
          Gethsemane Silent lesson -

          Leviticus 19-27 -

Do a Circle Lesson where the whole class sits in a circle. They read
the scripture block. Students take turns commenting, questioning, sharing
their feelings, etc. after their verses--or if they wish to comment on
something someone else has read. If they don't respond--keep reading! Maybe
you can get through the D&C in record time!!

Making Daily Challenges - Eric Richards excellent energizing
suggestion. Incorporate this concept into your lessons to fire up your
students about living the principles they learn.
