This is one of the mormon myths that gets perpetuated in various forms. It
is not scriptural nor have any general authorities made statements re the
truth of this story. It is from someone's journal from "back in the day".
:-) I could look it up, but it's late and I'm headed to bed.
Anyway, this story used to be in the old DC manual but has since been taken
out because of it's spurious origins. (At a CES conference at
BYU...remember those?...we were told specifically to no longer teach this
story and that it would not be in the new manual.)

Subject: [Teachldsseminary] OFF TOPIC: Question - Is Cain still roaming
theearth?
> While home teaching with my husband this evening, the comment was made by
a family member we visited that Cain is still roaming the earth, that he
never tasted of death, and that either Joseph Smith or Brigham Young states
having Cain ride up to them on a horse. Does anyone know where I can find
documentation that supports or disproves any of this information?
