[Teachldsseminary] Survey:Priesthood Authority cards

It is not a requirement to do so at the time of being given the Melchizedek
priesthood but as noted earlier it is recorded by the church. The courtesy
of the priesthood giver offering a lineage card is kind and appropriate but
not a requirement.

Asking for an oral history is a good option until one makes a request to SLC
for a copy, as it is recorded.

Kim,

Sorry, I understand your point now. I wasn't paying complete attention. Of
course, since these boys don't have the Melchizedek priesthood they would
not have a record.

I suppose as a member---my parents joined but were never very active----
there are a lot of things I just don't know and this is one. I assume
because I am a woman and haven't talked with men about their lineage cards
and my husband received his lineage from the Stake President then my husband
in turn gave it to our sons, I have never given it much thought. Therefore
my question is: whenever a young man is ordained to the Melchizedek
priesthood he should and will be given a lineage card?

Thanks for you patience with a still learning sister,

  Lena,

I recently sent to Salt Lake for my hubby's line. When we received it there
was a letter included with it. Apparently, there is no line of authority
recorded for Aaronic Priesthood offices, according the First Presidency.
Here are the quotes:

"Based on direction from the First Presidency, Priesthood Line of Authority
is recorded for Melchizedek Priesthood conferral (usually ordination to the
office of Elder) and ordination to the office of High Priest. . . "

Another document enclosed states:
". . . Priesthood line of authority is not recorded for Aaronic Priesthood
offices."

This was news for my hubby and I as well.

This is a rather late reply. In my class of 14 students 8 are boys. I know
that 5 have their authority lines. I suspect that 2 more do and only 1 that
I don't have any clue if he has his or not. I co-teach and happen to be
there when the other teacher brought this up. All the boys that have their
were given their lineage cards from their fathers. My husband's father is a
non-member and my husband was given his lineage card is that not the
practice anymore?

We have been discussing priesthood authority the past couple of days and
today I asked the young men in my class if they had their priesthood line of
authority cards. None of the 9 YM did! I thought when you received the
priesthood, you received the a card from whomever conferred the priesthood
upon you. My boys said "they don't do that anymore." All my boys are from
one ward, is it just their ward, or is this not practiced anymore?
