We are learning D&C 89 as a rebus. I wrote the entire scripture on the
board, and the students are replacing a couple of words each every day with a
picture (for 'commandments', someone drew a picture of the stone tablets,
'shall' was replaced with a shell). While they are drawing, I keep repeating the
scripture to get them familiar with it. Then we repeat it together a couple
of times. We have done this before with some of the longer ones, and it seems
to help them. Some scriptures just wouldn't work, the words don't lend
themselves to pictures. When we have drawn all we can, usually over 3 days, I
erase those words that are left leaving the first letter. Then I erase a big X
through the middle, then a +, and we just keep repeating it!

For D&C 88, I found pictures of Garfield and Odie on the internet with a
google search that fit the phrases (for example, there was a picture of them
caroling that I used for impart one to another as the gospel requires). I put
the words on the top of the paper with the picture; over the next few days, I
replaced the words with first letters, then a blank paper, then we did it
without anything.
