I think verse 12 is a good application for our students. Joseph and Sidney
had their understanding enlightened.
That's what I want for my students. What were they doing to receive this
enlightenment? They were studying the scriptures, pondering what they were
reading, and asking Heavenly Father about the questions they had.
After discussing how to receive enlighenment, then I would let the students
discover what Joseph and Sidney learned from from the Spirit which is
important information. Following the discussion on the degrees of
salvation I would return the students thoughts to the questions they have
in which they need enlightening and discuss how they can also receive
knowledge from the Lord.
