I have made a game, MOSES AGAINST THE MAGICIANS, loosely based on the
game show, "1 against 100." I have adapted this from the Exodus review game
previously posted to this list, but added the "a, b, c's" to make the game
work.
To play, each student gets a dry erase board to keep track of their
points. Important: each student may get Moses points AND Magician points,
so have them draw a line down the middle to not get them mixed up.
Basically, you only earn points if someone else misses the question. Put a
chair up in the front of the class, and invite someone up to be Moses. I
planned on each person getting up to 5 questions: 1st question - 25 points;
2nd - 50 points; 3rd - 100 points; 4th - 150 points, and 5th question is
worth 200 points. I put up a chart with this list, so everyone knows.
You read the question, and give the possible a, b, c answers. All of
the Magicians (rest of the class) write down the letter they think is
correct quietly on their board. Then Moses announces the answer he/she
thinks is correct. The Magicians all show their answers; the teacher
announces the correct answer. Moses multiplies the points for that
question times the number of INCORRECT Magicians. In other words, if he is
on a 25 point question, and 3 Magicians answer wrong, he gets 25 x 3 points
= 75 points all to Moses on just that one question. Then the next question
he gets 50 points times the number of incorrect Magicians, etc. up to the
200 point question. Technically, you should play this with the Magicians
who get it wrong putting down their boards and not answering again until a
new Moses is chosen. For a small class, I would let all the Magicians keep
on trying; you can decide.
If Moses answers incorrectly he/she is out of the game, and loses all of
his "Moses" points (important--they don't lose ANY of their Magician points,
ever!) The Magicians divide the Moses points up between themselves. If
Moses had 500 points, and there were 10 Magicans, they would each get 50
points - if they had the correct answer themselves!
Moses can choose to end the game at any point and retire with all of
his/her points intact. Moses can get two "lifelines" - he can use his
scriptures (I'd give a time limit on that usage); or you can poll the
Magicians before Moses gives his answer.
Try to get as many class members up to be Moses as you can, so everyone
can have a chance to beat the Magicians.
My class loved this game when we played it with the D&C review questions
last year, so I'm looking forward to playing this version. Play with it,
adapt this to your tastes and your class, here are the questions - I put a *
next to the correct answer!
