[Teachldsseminary] TEACH: Leviticus 25

This is exactly why you need to pray about your classes and what is best for
your class. I had prepared my lesson yesterday but it seemed flat and
something was missing. I prayed about how to get my students into the laws
of Leviticus and lose that blank stare I had on Monday. This idea came and I
looked into it, shared it and it worked great for my class.

I spent about only 2 minutes on some funny laws (in our own county it's
against the law to eat watermelon in a cemetery) and we talked about the
various cultures of the time and how there was probably a very good reason
for it. They got interested from then on as we highlighted several laws and
customs found in Leviticus (from the manual) and had a great discussion.

Even our CES instructor gives us ways to introduce and enhance lessons from
the manual for various approaches to lessons which is what this group also
does! I see nothing wrong with that as long as you pray about it as you
prepare your lessons.

Linda

It became clear to me again the wisdom of using only CES approved
material in our Seminary Classes. I went to the dumblaws.com
website for my state - MN and it had on it some laws that would
not do anything to edify my student. I am glad I viewed it
myself before suggesting the website or it or using it in class.

Great talk on Jubilee applying it to our day. It that can be
downloaded from the church's website and let them listen to it
from online:

A Year of Jubilee Elder L. Tom Perry Of the Quorum of the Twelve
Apostles

 General Conference, October 1999

Also, when you talk about Leviticus and all of the laws, some of
the youth may think some of these laws are dumb. One morning to
introduce something could be going to this website:
www.dumblaws.com to see strange laws from your own state and
discussing how they seem different to us today but were important
when they were put on the books in the time period and culture.
