I got an idea from a talk given by Michael Ballam. He said that he had been bothered by something since he was a child - the whole thing about "we believe the Bible to be the word of God, as far as it is translated correctly." He figured that God could make sure that it was translated correctly, so it bothered him.

He had a chance to live in Israel with his family for a while and was studying Hebrew. He decided that he would try his hand at "translating" so he took the Hebrew Torah and his Hebrew dictionary and started translating. After struggling with just the first sentence, he said he came to understand what was meant by "as far as it was translated correctly." He said there were so many ways each word could be translated that it really opened his eyes.

This intrigued me and I thought that there may be Seminary students with similar questions. I went online and was able to print out the first page of the Hebrew Torah (which is our Genesis in the OT). Above it, I wrote out the Hebrew words with our alphabet, so the students could read them. I then looked up the meanings of the words on another website and came up with a word list with the definitions. I thought it might be a good way of letting the students try their hand at translating, as Bro. Ballam did. It would probably be most effective if you didn't tell them what book of the OT the Hebrew is from, because that first line is too familiar. 

I've printed this out and made copies for my teachers and they seem to be excited to use it with their students. If others would like it, I'd be glad to send it to them or post it on the website. Please email me privately.

I haven't actually done this with students, so I don't know how well it will work, but if I was teaching, I would use it.
