[Teachldsseminary] ADMIN: MUST READ - When to reply privately; Using Subject headers appropriately

Thanks to all of you in advance for reading my rant. We have lots of new
list members, so expect a few more of these over the next few weeks.

WHEN TO REPLY PRIVATELY
Folks, please, please, do NOT pepper the list with request for attachment or
files. When you post a response like that EVERYONE has to read them.
Hundreds of list members have to read a message that should be sent to one
individual, not to mention the bloated digest for the day and the useless
block of messages in the archive. Instead, follow the instructions here for
posting a private request:

<a
href="http://latter-dayvillage.com/support/users/kb.php?id=10014&category_id
=3&sid2=>Link</a>

USING SUBJECT HEADERS APPROPRIATELY
Please use the header string SURVEY when you what to ask opinions from the
list, not to request a file or reference. Then you should use the header
string REQUEST. SURVEY = find out list members opinions; REQUEST = ask for a
file or reference.

With either of those header strings; ALWAYS include a description of what
your SURVEY or REQUEST is. Busy list members use that to decide if they
need to read it; if you leave it blank; e.g. REQUEST: (no text here), you
pretty much force EVERYONE to read the message. ALWAYS describe in a few
short words what it is you are looking for.

I appreciate everyone's effort to keep the list vibrant and useful. I
apologize if I am too terse, a frequent writing fault of mine.

Best Regards,
