There was a suggestion in the "free" subscription section to try to teach DC
113-116 like Seminary "High School", so we are trying that this week. You
could do the same thing with any other group of short sections like that.
But, I am having my students do the teaching! Here's our lesson plan:
Period 1 - Art DC 113, draw picture of tree with roots, stem (trunk),
rods (branches). Then compare Isa. 11 with DC 113 and see how much clearer
the symbolism is with the Lord's explanation.
Period 2 - History DC 114, Background on David Patten's life, discussed
what principles he lived to be so courageous. **Tried to discuss how
knowing the Lord will replace you if you are not valiant could help motivate
you to serve more faithfully (114:2). Students didn't really get into this,
didn't seem that motivating to them.
Period 3 - English DC 115, Listed different names the Church had been
called before the Lord gave the definitive name. Discussed other "Points of
the true church" in addition to bearing the Lord's name.
Next Day:
Period 4 - Science, DC 115 Object lesson in manual, glass, water, cork
floating up away from temptation. Discussed how meeting with the Saints
often can help lift you away from temptation; what can you do to lift up
others' spirits?
Period 5 - Geography, DC 116, Help students locate the map showing
Adam-ondi-Ahman, and its picture in the back of scriptures. Discuss what
happened in the past at this site (Adam presented his posterity to the
Lord), what will happen (all prophets give keys to their dispensation to
Adam, who will present all to Lord at His 2nd Coming.)
Period 6 - PE, "Volleyball" game with Nerf ball as students do scripture
chase. Any ball playing game can be adapted for this.
I had students pick which "subject" they wanted to teach, I had
lesson helps written up for them ready to go. Be sure to give them some
time beforehand to study their scriptures so they are ready to teach.
