Subject: [Teachldsseminary] General Conference Jeopardy

Here's my jeopardy game. Since we are having spring break this week, I
have a several questions that they can scripture chase to find answers to
and also from the hymns.

Boy a lot of references from the D&C and the most from JSH! I think they
really need to be encouraged to know this SM.

I apologize for any grammar or misspellings in my urgency to get this to
you!

I have an extra section in there so you can take one out if you want. I did

a whole one about the tabernacle (if these walls could talk) since there was

so much about it.

Linda

**YOU MAY USE YOUR SCRIPTURES , HYMNALS AND YOUR NOTES!

WHAT IS THE SUBJECT?

100 Sister Parkin quoted D&C 59:7&15 and said this subject was an
expression of faith, even in our trials. What was her subject? Expressing

Gratitude

200 Elder Holland quote James 3:2-6 as part of his talk. What was the
subject? Our tongues. He warned us that there is no place in that
magnificent spirit of ours for abusive, abrasive expression of any kind –
including gossip or backbiting or catty remarks.

300 Elder Eyring spoke about a dangerous word, especially if it kept us
from paying tithing, going to the temple, serving and repenting and can be a

thief of eternal life. What was the word? Someday - I will do this. . . .

FROM TEACHER: He said the temptation to delay will come from one or two
feelings: one to be complacent about what already done and/or overwhelmed
with the need to be doing more.

400 Elder Neal Anderson said he always remembered a story from April
conference, 1973 about meeting a young naval officer from a non Christian
country who learned about the church and was baptized. Pres. Hinckley asked

officer what his family and country would think of him returning home a
Mormon Christian. He said his family will be disappointed and his career
advancement may be in question. Pres. Hinckley asked him if he was he
willing to pay so great a price for gospel? What was the young officer’s
answer that was the subject of his talk? He answered, it’s true, isn’t it,
yes it is true, what else matters?

500 Elder Oaks spoke on marriage and divorce. He said that married
people who are considering divorce should face up to the reality that most
marriage problems can be solved by what? Repentance.

QUESTIONS ANSWERED?

100 Pres. Monson quoted Job 14:14. What was the question Job asked and
what two words did Pres. Monson change that answered it? If a man die,
shall he live again? If a man die, he shall live again!

200 Elder Gary Coleman spoke about a young girl who was the only LDS in
her new high school. People asked her a question that she wasn’t sure of
the answer. What was the question that she also asked her mom? Mom are we
Christians?

Teacher add: He also answered that “You are a Christian and I am too, a
devout Christian fortunate to have greater knowledge of Christ through his
gospel.”

300 Elder Pace asked a question of the youth of the church. What was the

question that was the subject of his talk? Do you have a testimony of
Joseph Smith?

400 Elder Tingey said that a portrait of Brigham Young is hung behind
Pres. Hinckley’s desk in his office. He told the story that after a hard
day, Pres. Hinckley looked at the portrait of Brigham Young and asked
Brigham it, “what should we do?” What was the response he felt he got from
the portrait of Brigham Young? He felt he said: “In my day I had problems
enough of my own, don’t ask me what to do.”

500 Elder Dahlquist the YM Pres. Told the story of Hannah Cornaby who was

baptized February, 1852 in England while being surrounded by a mob who were
yelling at them and throwing stone that miraculously never hit them. She
later wrote one of our hymns on page 26 that asked a question that was the
subject of his talk. What was the hymn and question we need to ask
ourselves? Who’s on the Lord’s Side Who, now the time to show?

WHAT SHOULD WE DO?

100 Elder Ballard quoted 2 Tim 3:16 and then told the youth of the church

not to discount or devalue this. What was it? The Bible. He also said
honest, diligent study of the Bible will make us better.

200 Elder Holland quoted 2 Ne 32:3 and said we should speak like what?
Angels who speak by the power of the Holy Ghost and speak the words of
Christ.

300 Sister Motsumori, 2nd counselor of Primary encouraged us to read the
Book of Mormon to build our faith and told the story of Boyd K. Packer’s
first experience as a teenager of reading the Book of Mormon as a youth.
What did he do? He read it until he got to the Isaiah chapters and quit. A

few months later he tried again and again quit in the Isaiah chapters.
Finally, he determined to go on reading through the Isaiah chapters and then

read the rest of the book.

>From teacher: She said “Persistence is the key.”

400 Elder Dickson spoke to you(th) and said the Adversary has very little

power to tempt you with things you never touch. He said now was the time to
commit to many things. Name one thing he said to commit to. Commit to
paying tithing, be like Nephi, commit to absolute integrity and clean
language, moral cleanliness, keeping Sabbath Day holy and doing the will of
the Lord.

500 Elder Uchtdorf spoke about being a pilot and learning to navigate
over long nonstop flights and cover 9000 miles. He said there is a point of

safe return, having enough fuel. After that there is the point of no
return. He then spoke about Satan who lies to us. What is his lie? He
wants us to feel beyond forgiveness. He wants us to think once sinned past
the point of no return.

From Teacher: Another lie he talked about was that Satan says we
are not forgiven if we can remember our sins. We are not promised that we
would not remember them but He would not! Memory of our sins helps us and
like Alma, will soften over time, no longer distress or torture us. . . he
knew he was forgiven.

STORY TOLD!

100 President Faust said we built temples before church buildings and
told the story of Joseph F Smith as a young child going to hear Joseph and
other early church leaders speak in the grove of trees in Nauvoo near the
temple site. He said Joseph would stand in a wagon and thousands of people
would sit around to listen. What did he say would happen when it rained? A

couple of people would hold umbrellas over the prophet and the people would
sit and get wet but no one would leave.

200 Tell us about Elder Bednar’s parable and told us to think on the
parable to evaluate our lives. What was the parable? Parable of the
pickle. Many spiritual lessons from same process of making pickles:
Prepare and clean pickles (we must be prepared and clean, immersed and
saturated in salt brine for a period of time that changes the composition of

cucumbers (we must immerse in the gospel and scriptures that changes our
hearts and helps us to be born of Christ) and sterilize and preserve them
(we must become purified and sanctified and receive the covenants)

300 Elder Packer told the story of Elder LeGrande Richards who told him
that when he was 12, went with his father and heard the one of the last
general conference talks of a prophet. He said that over the years he
forgot what that prophet said but he never forgot how he felt when he heard
him speak. Which prophet did he hear? Wilford W. Woodruff

400 Elder Pace told the story of how he knew Joseph Smith was a prophet.
He said at age 11, he went on a trip to SLC with his family and went around
collecting all free pamphlets and other materials that we could but didn’t
read them. Tell the story how he got his testimony. He was alone in their
1948 Chevrolet, when he was bored and in desperation and spotted his stack
of free stuff. He read the pamphlet, “Joseph Smith tells his own story.”
He was riveted and heart filled with joy. He looked in the rearview mirror
to see he was crying when he finished. He didn’t understand it then but he
felt a witness of the spirit. His parents were not there, just him and the
Spirit of the Holy Ghost. He said, “This can happen to you!”

500 Pres. Hinckley told a story about a lady in Idaho Falls. Tell her
incredible story. A woman in Idaho Falls, over a period of 15 years acted
as proxy in giving temple endowment to 20,000 individuals in IF temple. She

completed it on a Friday, and returned on Saturday to do 5 more and then
passed away the next week. He said, “That is as many people as are assembled

in Conference Center this morning. What a reception on the other side!”

DOUBLE JEOPARDY

FUNNY THING!

200 Elder Marlin K. Jensen said 18 ½ years ago he was called as a general

warranty.

600 Elder Holland said that Nephi probably felt that being bound with
cords was better than hearing murmuring. And he must have said what that
got a laugh? He must have said hit me one more time I can still hear your
murmuring.

800 President Hinckley said that the tabernacle was restored with the
latest seismic code so that its historical features would not be destroyed.
It also now has newly designed benches. Then what funny thing did he say?

hard as the old ones were!

his little sister. What was his excuse that got a laugh? He said he had
