[Teachldsseminary] CHAT: Students remembering lessons?

That's normal. When you think about it, we don't remember everything either
and we are the teachers! I know that is especially true if they are not
reading their own scriptures and studying on their own. I'm appalled
sometimes that mine do not remember some things either. That's why its good
to do what you are doing, reviewing high points. I try to do that about
every 3-4 weeks. They look forward to it and I figured if they missed or
were sleepy at that point they can hear it again.

That's why the church repeats what book of scripture each year every four
years!

Also, I figure if they can remember how they feel and hopefully learn some
things and learn very well the SM and how to apply them as well as the
important competency points we are told to try to have them learn we have
been successful.

Subject: [Teachldsseminary] CHAT: Students remembering lessons?

Hi ladies,
I wasn't sure what to title this email, so here goes.

I feel SO good when I study my lesson and plan/prepare it. I also feel
like when I teach the lesson to my small class that I'm really getting
the message across. I study several hours a night to make sure I have
everything in order. Sometimes I will even come up with little facts
that aren't in the teachers guide, but are very interesting. The kids
love it. At least I think they do......at the time.

Just last week I started to do a review on Fridays. I hadn't done it
before, but up to this point, we had gone through 25 Sections and before
we got to far along, I wanted to try and review some of the main
points. I used the Cootie game that someone has posted, but instead of
just doing SM, I made up questions about the lessons. Four from each
Section. I chose all sorts of questions. Main points, stories I'd
related, visual aids I'd used, etc. Well, last Friday I only had one
girl and she really enjoyed playing the game alone. lol She just
decided to see how many questions it would take her to answer correctly
to get the 11 Cootie pieces. She was thrilled when it only took her 15
questions to build her Cootie. She said she'd like to do it again this
week. So, I kept the same questions because we didn't get to all of
them, and I added questions for the next 4 sections we'd gone over.
This week I had 2 girls present and one of them acted like.......well,
pretty much bored. I didn't get the reaction I thought I would. The
other girl had fun. BUT........I found they didn't know all of the
answers to even some of the simple questions. Some of them didn't even
remember certain stories I had related, even when I gave them a hint and
reminded them.

Last night and today I started doubting my "getting through" to them
each morning. If they couldn't answer some of the simple
questions.......am I making my lessons to where they remember them?

Any suggestions, or was it just a bad Friday? ;-)

Thanks,
Debbie
ps.......sorry so long.
