Four years ago when I taught Doctrine and Covenants in seminary I had a  
class with more girls than boys.  I pointed out to the girls in class that  they 
could memorize JSH 1:15-20 as a value project for Young Women--since it  would 
probably take them about 10 hours to fully memorize this scripture  mastery.  
Some girls were able to memorize the scripture more quickly and  felt it 
didn't take them a full 10 hours but I reminded them that part of  memorization is 
just letting the scripture imprint upon their brain and I  assured them it was 
at least 10 hours worth of work.  Anyway, the rest of  the story is that all 
six girls in my class (and 1 of the boys) memorized the  JSH scripture 
mastery.  My daughter was one of the students and she can  still quote it now--four 
years later.  Perhaps this would be a good way to  encourage some of your 
students.
