[Teachldsseminary] IDEA: SM charts and DC 18:5

Tonight I used the SM charts that I made last week; based on the ones that
you can download in English. I used the ones with full text, and the ones
where I left 3 words out of each sentence. I also the charts with the 3
blank words now printed in red, so that they could easily see what the
missing word was. I had only 3 students tonight, but they all took a chart
of their choice, and started to study that SM. The different type of charts
made it more fun for them to learn the SM.
 
We also discussed DC 18:5 and I used an idea that I have found in the book
'Scripture Study for Latter-Day Saints families. Doctrine and Covenants', by
Dennis H. Leavitt and Richard O. Christensen

First we talked about what will happen, when the church will be build up on
the foundation of His Gospel. 
 
Then I had a balloon and put it on a table. I asked them to blow the balloon
off the table; that was easy of course.
After that I put a hard candy on the table and asked them to blow that off
the table; that was a bit harder.
Then I asked them to blow off the table the hymn book that I had placed on
it; that was hard but one seminary student was able to do so.
So, I added another book on top of that hymn book, and now he was not able
to blow if off the table. 
 
After this I asked them how they could relate this to a gospel principle. We
talked about how our testimony should have a strong foundation, and not be
just like a balloon, that can be easily blown away by a cloud. They came up
with the idea that adversary was like the cloud. Well, I would have never
come up with that idea, but it worked for them :)
 
We then spend some time on what the meaning of 'the rock' is, as mentioned
in the footnote, and we read in the Topical Guide what the meaning of that
word can be. Then we read DC 18:5 again, and suddenly one of my students
said: Oh, but now this verse get a whole new meaning for me :) So, it was a
very good lesson tonight. After closing prayer I told them that I understand
why the church leaders tell us that they are a special generation!
