I had a really good experience today that I wanted to share.

My students came in dragging today. I had a total of 3. Two there on
time, one of which hasn't been there the last 2 days, and then my only
boy came in 20 min. late, but he only came 3 days last month, so I was
happy with a tardy!

Anyway, I did the object lesson in the manual about filling 6 glasses,
having a pitcher for the Bishop's Storehouse, etc. They really
associated with it and understood the law of consecration. In fact,
they woke up a little when I did the object lesson. What they liked
best was a game I found in a book called Scripture Study for Latter-day
Saints....Doctrine and Covenants. It stated that this game was adapted
from the Primary 5 book, so some of you might have played it before. I
had 5 slips of paper folded and put in a bowl. On those 5 slips were
written......food, money, clothing, shelter and books/games. I gave
each of the students a sheet of paper and they wrote these same 5 things
down on their paper. The name of the game was....I Don't Need
It......Do You Want It? The first person pulls out a slip of paper from
the bowl and reads what they have and circles that item on their own
paper. It continues to go around the circle with each person taking a
slip and circling the item on their sheet. When you draw a slip of
paper of an item you already have......you turn to the person on your
left and say......I don't need it, do you want it? If it's something
the person doesn't have they say........yes. If that person has it, it
goes to the next person on the left. Then they circle their item. We
continued until everyone had everything, or they had been "given" that
item by their neighbor. The first person that had a repeat slip of
paper and had to offer said........hey I get it. I'm sharing with my
neighbor! I said.......exactly!!! If you don't need it........share
it. To my surprise, they loved the game. We played it at the very end
of the lesson, so with everything said, scriptures read,
etc.........they got the point of the law of consecration. They got
it! Yeah!!! I got tickled at one little girl in the class. She's very
thin and LOVES food (don't you just envy her? lol). Her first item that
she got was food, so each time she picked another slip of paper and it
was food, it was like it was breaking her heart to ask the person next
to her if they needed it. lol She got so frustrated at giving her food
away, at one point instead of saying, I don't need it, do you want
it?.......she said............I really want it, but I can't have
it......do you want it?

Anyway, it was a good day in teaching Section 42. They loved the object
lesson, they understood and then when we played the game....they really
got it.
