I would definitely appreciate it if some of those who are more experienced
with the Search-Analyze-Apply technique would share their questions. It is
something that I'm trying to work on with my teaching.

Perhaps we could share some of the searching and analyzing questions that we
develop as we prepare our lessons?

Hope you don't mind if I too add a few thoughts to this discussion as
well...

This is my second year teaching seminary, although I have had many years of
opportunity to teach in the church as we all have. I feel truly blessed to
receive the training that has been made available through the CES program of
the church. It is very professional and causes one to reach for the highest
standards of teaching when applied correctly. I have honestly felt the
challenge on a personal level and strive each day in my preparation and in
the classroom to apply this training in my teaching. I have had dramatic
results in my ability to be an effective teacher when I have applied the
teaching principles as outlined in our training materials and through our
faculty and area training meetings. I know that to teach is the greatest
gift of God any one of us can be given. I personally do not take this gift
lightly and I know it is a skill that can be developed each day like any
other gift that God bestows upon His children. I believe the gift to teach
is truly the finest of the fine arts and we are so blessed to teach His word
everyday to the most precious amongst us.... the rising generation! Do we
not owe Him the absolute best we have to offer Him?

My CES director shared with us that after 20 years of teaching the "old
way", when he was introduced to the method of teaching to -have students
search, analyze and apply, ... he was determined to be obedient and use this
himself, so that he could train with it, and that for a solid year he would
come home at the end of the day after teaching institute and literally with
tears, be absolutely frustrated with himself. Him being willing to share
this has caused me to stick with forcing myself to consistently apply this
method of helping my own students search the scriptures, analyze their
findings and then apply what they have found to their own individual lives.
One of the challenges has also been to learn how to create search questions
that will lead them to the principle that I have prayerfully decided to
teach and lead them to that day. And Also to make sure that the analyze
questions between those two points are very guided so that
they can analyze by the spirit at a level of their understanding.
This can take great effort and forethought on the part of a teacher... and
this is where an outline or a lesson plan, especially when you are "new" at
this is critical. Once you get the pattern down and the wording and rhythm
of how to ask questions... you might use it less frequently, but I doubt it.
lol You come to realize how much work you have put into your art and would
like to keep it... so it may be shared if others need it or for future use.
( bc you have had quite a journey yourself... it is like a journal or
testimony of your own so why wouldn't you keep it and want it written
down??? now it is just in lesson form.. you see? cool )

This is my two cents... with a little interest you might say. But I am
grateful for my gift that I have the opportunity to increase and for all of
you that have added your knowledge to help me grow. You are all such a
blessing to me and I gain so much from you each and
every day! Thank you so much.
Kathryn
