[Teachldsseminary] idea

Just thought I'd share an idea I've been using to help with some seminary
issues that have come up. It's probably not anything new to most of you but
it's working so it might help someone. I have been having problems in my
class with kids straggling in up to half an hour late, most of the kids not
bringing their scriptures, occasionally participation, etc. So I devised a
plan that is a little more immediate than seminary buck but along the same
lines. Every month or 6 weeks we have a 'points week' where the kids can
earn points for showing up on time (50 pts), 5 minutes late (20 pts), more
than 5 minutes late (5 pts), memorizing scripture mastery (50 pts),
preparing a devotional (up to 50 pts - my discretion), bringing scriptures
to class(50 pts), I also give them whatever points they earn in SM games
(teams divide points evenly between members). The kids really get into it
and at the end of the week the top two point holders get a king sized
chocolate bar of their choice. The only rule is that the same two kids can't
win the week twice in a row. I put up a poster and post points daily. After
the first day, attendance picks up and so do the other things. The effect
seems to hang on for a few weeks and then we do it again. Of course you
could change points and what they earn them for depending on your class
needs. I also make sure everyone earns some points so that no one feels too
badly about themselves.
