Hi,
I'm a former ems teacher who still looks at the e-mail list now and again.  
Yes, you can get New Era issues back to 1971 on the lds.org.  Click on gospel 
library, then magazines, then new era (if you double-click on the plus sign, 
you will see the list of back years).  Click on the plus sign again for specific 
year, specific month and content.  Good luck!
