[Teachldsseminary] QUES: Scritpure Mastery

I have 14 in my class.
We worked a month on the Magic Square so they could be familiar with them.
I then started teaching and had them each teach a SM about two a week,
usually a Tuesday and Thursday. They were to do an activity to try to help
us learn them. I follow up the next day with another activity or time to
learn it. I also teach them as they are coming up in lessons. In January,
I will do other activities to focus on one SM at a time. I'm hoping to
focus on doctrine and ask a question from our competency list and see if
they can know a SM that goes with it.
Don't wait for them to learn them as they all do it at different paces. I
have one that is done, 2-3 that have learned 15 or more of them and some who
haven't done one. I always have a big special event the last day of
seminary that night in May for those who have learned them all so I will
have some learn them 2-3 times during the year and some in Spanish as well
as English and then some students who will almost wait until the last two
weeks and pass them all at once.
I use music, rout learning, a buddy system, 1st letters, anything that works
to help them learn it. One will help one student and one another.
I use a lot of incentives and in January whoever learns one in a week will
put their name in a cup for a drawing to be able to sit that week in a
lounge chair I will drag in. That seems to be a big incentive over the hard
chairs!
The important thing is to do something every day, give them time to learn
and work on it, involve the parents and keep at it.
I hope that helps.
Linda

This is my first year and I feel like I"m dragging my feet with SM. We
have been in EMS for 3 months now, with a total of 3 wks. off during
that time for school conferences, fall break, inservice days, etc. My
girls have memorized 4 of the SM, but been introduced to 7 SM verses. I
know some of you all introduce them all at the beginning of Seminary.
My plan was to have one passed off weekly, but that's not happening.
How do you all do it? Do you introduce them, then go back and learn
them to pass them off? I guess I have been waiting until it is learned
and passed off before going on to the next one.
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Debbie
