[Teachldsseminary] TEACH:How to keep students awake at 6 AM

I tend to be a pretty dynamic teacher, so my classes are
*usually* fairly lively, anyways; but at 6 AM it is hard keeping them awake
enough to be lively. I have found that following the brethren's admonition
to have the students actually do the teaching and participating works the
best. I introduce a scripture block, give them some basic instructions on
what to look for as they read and underline (this is Key 1--they are moving
their hands as well as their eyes.) Then discuss in pairs/as groups, etc.
Then they stand up to present their findings (Key 2--once they stand up to
do something, they are usually awake).
I look for anything different to do with the scriptures, and try
hard to vary up the routine often--where they sit, what we are looking for
in the scriptures, how to present. I have printed the principles or
features of the scriptures out on sheets of paper, then we put them up on
the wall and students had to match them up. Or post them on a timeline on
the wall, etc. But letting them discover and then teach the principles lets
them "own" the class, and they want to be awake for that.
