I have heard that this originated with an Education Week talk by a non-GA,
and I believe the present variations are quite a variation on even the
original comment.  I saw it all in print at one time...  Maybe someone has
that source.

I don't believe it ever came from Elder Packer.  That's my understanding,
anyway.

The quote regarding "The Greatest Generation" attributed to Elder Packer was
refuted by a letter from him. Does anyone have a source for or the actual
directive that he gave?
