I am trying to find a reference for a story I have heard. I am pretty sure
I heard it in General Conference, but I might have heard a General Authority
tell the story in Stake Conference. I have searched lds.org without
success. I ask a member of our Stake Presidency about the story. He
remembered hearing it and remembered the details more or less as I did.
Anyway, if you have the reference for this, I would greatly appreciate you
sharing it with me. Here are the details as I remember them...
The fast offerings of the members of the Church in an African nation
(Nigeria or Ghana?) were unusually high given the economic situation of that
nation. After covering the needs of local members, they were able to send
surplus funds to Church Headquarters. Church leaders in Salt Lake wanted to
look further into this. They spoke with the local church leaders in that
country and asked about the fast offerings surplus. One of the local church
leaders explained, "We got together and decided that each of us only needed
one good meal per day. As long as we had one good meal per day, we would be
in a position to help others."
Thanks!
