This may have been shared earlier, for journals I pick up the comp notebooks
that usually come two to a pack at staples, NOT the staple brand, they
aren't as nice. Sometimes you can find the "marbled" ones in blue green and
burgundy instead of the dark green classic pattern, and they make really
nice journals once you cover up the front title with your picture. Since we
usually don't use the "folders" handed out in seminary, I use those for
their photos, and calendars. They are nice because they are on a firmer
paper and hold up well to the journal cover. Last year I took the pic of
mormon and glued it to the front to cover up the "comp" label, and used the
reading chart and calendar and the bom title from it to put on the inside
cover, and outside for the title, etc. Then I laminate the entire cover up to
the "black" binding portion and use an exacto knife to trim it off. (The
kind of laminate that comes on a roll like contact paper that you cut to
fit) It ends up being a really nice journal book, oh, also with their
name....it was "The Plates abridged by ___________(insert name). The cover
was sturdy, and at the end of the year they had all of their handouts glued
in. I also offered temp adhesive so if they wanted to move them to their
scriptures later or another book they could. No loose papers flying around,
and the kids loved glue-in day, usually Friday's where for about 15-20 min.
we summarized quotes, lesson highlights....we didn't glue in everyday as
it's a little distracting to pull out the supplies everyday, so I held them
till Friday when we could do 3-4 at once for the entire week, good review.
