I may have gotten this idea from the list 5 or 6 years ago but it worked
nicely last year and I'm going to do it again this year.
If you get your scripture mastery cards like we do, in a full sheet, I write
the keyword on the card and then separate them. Then I place them in
baseball card holders. They don't cost very much for a package. I think the ones
I used last year I purchased at Target and have enough left over for this
year. I place each card in its own pocket and both sides can be seen. I will
also copy the first letter cards onto card stock and cut them up so I can
place them in a baseball card holder also.
I used three pages to hold 25 cards with two pockets left over. I picket up
a little folded information card for the Strength of Youth standards and it
fit nicely in one of the left over pockets. I put these pages in the loose
leaf binder I put their student manuals in. BTW, I have the binding cut off
the manuals so the pages lay nicely in their notebook. And they can take a
page out to work on it and place it back when finished. I also got them their
own copy of the Strength of Youth booklet. These were free through the
distribution center.
One other thing. I had fun with adults when I taught Doctrine and Covenants
in Gospel Doctrine class. I had a poster of the Latter-day prophets. I
offered a candy bar to the first person in class that could tell me who was the
President of the Quorum of the Twelve for each of the prophets. I only had
one taker! You know, of course, that it was the next prophet to be called.
i.e. Brigham Young was the Pres.. of the 12 for Joseph Smith, John Taylor was
the Pres of the Twelve for Brigham Young, Wilford Woodruff was the Pres of
the Twelve for John Taylor, and so on.
I think I have the student supplies ready for the first day of class. We
don't start until the Tues after Labor Day. Thanks to everyone for their ideas.
