Good morning from TEXAS!
(Sorry so long and hope I don't
bore the veteran teachers out there.)
I have been a seminary teacher for
12 years and this will be my 13th
(lucky number). When I first taught
I had 30 students and I was only
23. I will be teaching the 11th-12th
graders this year.
I'd like to help answer the
question that you have had with my
experience and keep in mind, everything
is different for all. For some it works
one way and for others it works another.
I use the Summer like a great thirst in the
desert.
I prepare as much as possible in advance
because I am also an 8th grade Algebra/
Pre-Algebra teacher. My co-seminary
teacher and
I got to work right away. So here are my
ideas:
1-I got a school calendar right away, for
days of school & holidays and
started planning out my teaching sequence
according to our manual's chart and
planning for progress reports by dividing
the amount of school days in four.
2-I created a pioneer wagon reading chart to
include reading info. about the prophets
that students will be able to color in.
3-I have already planned the first week
out in lesson format. The first day will
be devoted to many things like: syllabus
(yes I use one), reading chart, S.Bucks,
Notebooks, Zones, Devotionals. As I don't
want this to be an issue later on. And
students enjoy knowing what their parameters
are.
4-The next day, I jump right into the
Plan of Salvation (2 days) & Overview.
Then on SM Activity Day, we will all mark
our SM's as I don't expect anyone to be
absent the first week. This has worked
well for me and the kids love it.
I do all of this because we run out
of days to teach. We even have to
teach 5 Fridays just to get in what
we need too. We begin school on Aug. 14.
I also issued them a greater challenge to
memorize the JSH 1:15-20 SM for this summer,
as it is so long. I too am
taking on that challenge.
This year I created a SM Bulletin Board
Idea. The first week I will have
a Bulletin Board representing the
First Vision (keyword) and its reference.
Then, after using it in our devotionals
for the week, each zone will have an
opportunity to create a Bulletin Board,
get extra Bucks, and introduce it to
the class. We will focus on that one
each week, yet we will discover each SM
every Friday.
P.S. I also do the devotionals for a
couple of days, so that zones get the
idea of what a devotional looks like.
I hope this helps.
Thanks for the List Bro.Holder!
The more ideas, the better!
