[Teachldsseminary] QUEST: First days and blocks

Years ago, when the church still held CES Conferences, I remember being
taught that it was imperative that we taught the Plan of Salvation every
year at the beginning, because all doctrine is tied to this plan. The kids
may complain that they know it already, but knowing and fully comprehending
it takes a lifetime. Also, each student is coming into your class with
various levels of understanding. These first few lessons help to level the
playing field for the year.

In the Teacher's Manual, every year, it gives four different approaches to
teach this plan. My first year, which was OT, I made the fatal mistake of
not using the 3 pillars and bridge idea. Although it says you can use any
idea to teach the Plan, I strongly encourage you to use the bridge lesson
for the OT year, and choose something else the other three years. In the
video for the OT, the bridge analogy is used for the first few videos on the
tape. I taught something else, and so those first few video lessons did not
go over very well.

The overview of the DC helps the kids get the big picture, and it will make
the historical background insights of each DC section fit more comfortably
into the student's mind once the overview is understood.

Good luck with your lesson preparations!
