Just a thought to add... as with all analogies, they are not required
to be perfect. They have similarities and likeness. In story form
they can be very creative. That is why they are thus called an
"analogy". We can liken the doctrine of the atonement unto this
story and then using the scriptures we may then clarify. Such as the
atonement has not left anything undone... no cards are still being
signed. Or just like what is referred to here in this post is the
correct doctrine as well. And there are a few others that could be
hammered out if we all want to get crazy. lol
But using this story is a great readiness to teach that now is the
time to repent and to point out what it "might or could" feel like to
stand in the presence of the Savior. Especially with youth who are
very touched by these kinds of stories, without being sensational. A
fine line as I am sure we all agree. Anyway, I still love a good
analogy as long as we clarify the doctrine when using them. Better
yet, have our students do the teaching on the doctrine. Another fun
idea might be to have the student do some creative writing of their
own and write a new ending with the correct doctrine to show their
understanding. But remember, this guy was having a dream... and I
don't know about your dreams, but some of mine are pretty weird???
lololol

This is a very moving story but it overlooks one important point:"
Behold,
he who has repented of his sins, the same is forgiven and I the Lord
remember
them no more." D&C 58:42.
The beauty of the Atonement and the gift of forgiveness is that we don't
have to keep remembering our sins or hold onto the guilt associated
with them.
So in this story, after Jesus signs off on all those sins recorded on
cards--don't you think they would be destroyed?
