OK - Due to overwhelming requests, I'm posting the basics of the patriarchal 
blessing lesson I did for section 66. First I gave them a treasure map all 
rolled up and tied and told them they could follow it to a treasure. Then I 
turned out the lights so they couldn't see it. The map was just one I drew 
of our building. We talked about how much easier it would be to find the 
treasure (return to Heavenly Father) if you could see and follow the map 
(patriarchal blessing). We then went through section 66 and found the Lords 
counsel and warnings to Wm McLellin. After that I had them do the following 
quiz. We used T?F cards and the kids got a small candy for the right answer. 
There was lots of discussion about the questions. I concluded by telling a 
story from Pres Hinckley's biography and challenging my kids to seriously 
consider and pray about getting their own blessings.

Patriarchal Blessing quiz:
1) Anyone can receive a patriarchal blessing. (F – must be a worthy member 
of the church and mature enough to begin to understand)
2) A patriarchal blessing promises you certain things that will happen in 
your life. (F – must live worthy to receive them – one of my students said 
it is a blessing of what’s possible if you live worthy)
3) Members of the same family will be members of the same tribe of Israel. 
(F)
4) If a person is faithful, all patriarchal promises will be fulfilled in 
the person’s lifetime. (F – may be in this life or the next)
5) A person’s patriarchal blessing will always be understandable to the 
person who receives it. (F – sometimes we must work hard through prayer and 
thought and study to understand. Sometimes only time will help)
6) A patriarchal blessing can be shared with friends and neighbours. (F)
7) A patriarchal blessing will tell you the major callings you will hold in 
your life. (F – sometimes callings may be revealed but not always and not 
all)
8) To receive a patriarchal blessing you must be interviewed by the bishop 
and stake president. (F – only bishop)
9) A patriarchal blessing will tell you if you are going to be married and 
have children in this life. (F – it may or may not)
10) If you live worthy, the Lord will fulfill all of the promises given in 
your patriarchal blessing. (T)

Pres Hinckley is on the ship heading to England on his mission
	“While on board the ship, Elder Hinckley pulled out the patriarchal 
blessing he had received at age eleven from Patriarch Thomas E. Callister.  
He couldn’t remember having read it since the day the patriarch had come to 
the Hinckley home and pronounced blessings upon him and several of his 
brothers and sisters, but now he was interested in reviewing those promises 
made a dozen years earlier.  “Thou shalt grow to the full stature of manhood 
and shall become a mighty and valiant  leader in the midst of Israel” the 
patriarch had promised. “The Holy Priesthood shall be thine to enjoy and 
thou shalt minister in the midst of Israel as only those can who are called 
of God.  Thou shalt ever be a messenger of peace; the nations of the earth 
shall hear thy voice and be brought to a knowledge of the truth by the 
wonderful testimony which thou shalt bear.”  Perhaps he thought the mission 
to England would fulfill at least one part of his blessing – that he would 
bear testimony to the nations of the earth.”
