Here is a lesson outline my supervisor gave us for Section 61.  It really gives a great way to look at this section.  I hope someone else finds it helpful.


Ideas for section 61

 

 

Readiness:        Hold up a rock and ask:  What is this symbolic of? (Rock of Christ, build your foundation on the rock, rock of revelation, etc.)

 

                        (Establish the fact that the Lord uses symbols in much of his teaching)

 

Analyze:           Q. What have you always been taught concerning Satan and the waters?

                        Q. So is Satan really control H20?  

                        Q. If that is so why do we baptize in water, or why do we drink it as an emblem of Christ blood? 

                        Q. Is it possible that the "water's" in section 61 could be symbolic?

 

Search:             Read Rev. 17:5

                        Q. According to John, what could the waters be symbolic of?  (People, nations...the world)

                        Q. Does Satan have great influence in the world?

 

Search:             Underline the key phrases in section 61:4-6,14-16,18-19 and see if they fit this symbolic meaning????

                        vs. 4- there are many dangers upon the waters (world)

                        vs. 5- many destructions upon the waters 

                        vs. 6- he that is faithful among you shall not perish by the waters (sin of the world)

                        vs. 14- I the Lord, in the beginning blessed the waters (world) by the mouth of John I have cursed the waters.

vs. 15- Wherefore, the days will come that not flesh shall be safe upon the

            waters  (in the world)

vs. 16- in the days to come, none is able to go up to the land of Zion, upon the waters, but he that is upright in heart. (have overcome the influence of the world)

vs. 18- you shall forewarn your brethren concerning these waters.

Vs. 19- the destroyer rideth upon the face thereof.  (how true!)

 

Analyze:           Q. What symbolic evidence do we have that Christ controls the waters?

                                    (Parting the red sea, Jesus and Peter walking on top of the water)

                        Remember what the water in the tree of life vision was symbolic of..river of filth!

 

Search:             Read Ether 2:17

                        Q. With our symbolism in mind..What was the most important aspect of these barges?  (they were tight like unto a dish so the water.                                     "world"..could not affect them.)

 

Application:      Q. What must our lives be like in order to keep the influence of the world out of our lives?    (tight like a dish)  How do you think we can                                     accomplish this?
